During the Mexican Grand Prix, a second serious incident of the day occurred. After the crash of Alexander Albon from Williams during the first practice session, Mercedes pilot George Russell collided with the wall on the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez track.
The information about this was confirmed by Toto Wolff, the head of Mercedes, stating that Russell's condition was stable and the doctors allowed him to leave the medical center after the serious collision. However, Wolff noted that the DTM was significant.
The second pilot involved in the incident of the day, Russell wasn't able to repeat his successful run in qualifying: he was the fastest in the first practice session, followed by Carlos Sainz (Ferrari) and Yuki Tsunoda (VCARB). The Mercedes team needs to succeed to restore their monopoly for the upcoming race when the third practice and qualifying take place.
Russell occupies the seat in the championship drivers, having a total of 167 points. The 2024 Mexican Grand Prix is expected to be particularly challenging due to the recent incident during the second practice session on the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez track, where Russell was involved.
The incident occurred shortly after the start of the second practice when the Mercedes pilot lost control and crashed into the barriers on a section of the track. Due to the crash, red flags were displayed, and the practice was temporarily halted. Russell was shaken when he exited the car, and he was taken to the medical center for assistance.
Russell was delivered to the medical center for receiving medical assistance due to injuries sustained in the result of the collision. This season he has stepped onto the podium three times, including a victory at the Austrian Grand Prix.
